FARGO — It is no longer news that the first Arctic air since Christmas is on it's way and will blow in Friday, probably with some blowing snow. Ultimately, it is not known how the upcoming cold wave will compare to the week before Christmas, but it will likely be somewhat similar. One significant difference, however, may be the upcoming cold wave's duration.
It appears it will be a long cold wave, with daily high temperatures mostly near or below below zero starting Saturday and lasting through the following week, the first week of February, and probably into the second week. So we had better get used to the idea that it is about to get cold and stay that way for a protracted period. January gave us a break. Following a cold December, the coldest month of the year was warmer than average. February, the second coldest month of the year, is looking cold again.
