Viking Sportsmen offer free take-a-kid-fishing weekend, while Pheasants Forever hosts Pint Night in January
Free fishing event for kids hosted Jan. 15 and 16, while a Pint Night at Pike and Pint in Alexandria to introduce people to what the Douglas County Pheasants Forever chapter is all about is set for Jan. 12.
The Viking Sportsmen and Alexandria Public Schools Community Education are teaming up to host a free take-a-kid-ice-fishing weekend Jan. 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Kids ages 15 and younger can fish for stocked rainbow trout in the Viking Sportsmen Bemo Pond. Participants should park at the Lure Lakebar (2800 N. Nokomis NE) in Alexandria.
There will be a shuttle transporting people to the pond about a quarter-mile away. Participants must be a Minnesota resident and accompanied by an adult, but no licenses are needed for kids or adults who take part.
There is limited gear available, so participants are asked to bring their own ice fishing gear. Wax worms are provided by Christopherson’s Bait Shop in Alexandria. There will be raffle prizes, and the event will take place regardless of weather.
For more information, call Mike McDaniel (320-760-5623), Chris Kleine (320-491-4135) or Tim Olson (320-766-2650).
