Three of the top Class A teams in the state were in Minnewaska on Tuesday night as the fifth-ranked Lakers hosted a triangular against sixth-ranked Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie and top-ranked Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville.
LPGE-Browerville, the back-to-back state champions, lived up to that top ranking by going 2-0 with a 42-19 win over B-H-V-PP and a 46-21 win over Minnewaska. The Lakers won the head-to-head match against B-H-V-PP by a 48-19 final to salvage the split.
Nick Ankeny, Mason Schiffler, Jacob Blair and Dalton Friedrichs got decision wins for the Lakers against the Raiders, while Easton McCrory, Max Reichmann, Ryan VanLuik, Tyson Meyer, Nathan Rankin and Jakob Swalla added pins.
David Revering and Deagen Captain had pins for the Raiders against Minnewaska. Gideon Ervasti added a major decision win at 195, and Blake Sumstad had their fourth win in an 8-6 decision at 145.
Meyer, the top-ranked wrestler at 182 pounds, went 2-0 on the day for the Lakers with a pin against Bergen Pesta of LPGE-Browerville. Easton McCrory won a 10-6 decision at 132 pounds for Minnewaska, and VanLuik (182, fall, 0:40), Rankin (220, 6-2) and Jakob Swalla (285, 10-3) added wins against the top-ranked team.
Osakis 0-2 at Eden Valley-Watkins Tri
Osakis was at the Eden Valley-Watkins Triangular on Tuesday where the Silverstreaks fell 78-3 against Class A’s third-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and 51-25 to the host school.
Jacob Taplin got the Silverstreaks’ lone win against BBE with a 3-0 decision at 106 pounds. Taplin was 2-0 on the day after also pinning Brayden Kramer in 1:14 at 113 pounds in the Eden Valley-Watkins match. Lukas Duchene (120, forfeit), Gaven Cimbura (132, 12-4 MD), Kale Drevlow (145, 8-2) and Tyson Hagedon (152, fall, 5:06) also had wins.
Knights improve to 4-0
West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville is 4-0 after beating Staples-Motley 63-15 and United North Central 48-18 on Tuesday.
The Knights had eight pins against Staples-Motley coming from Carter Lohse, Mason Richter, Adam Lohse, Ashton Danner, Nathaniel Kisgen, Beau Robinson, Colton Lindquist and Austin Mattson. Anthony Sykora (forfeit), Kade Olson (forfeit) and Jordan Lohse (4-2 decision) added to the team total.
The Knights got four wins right off the bat from Carter Lohse (fall, 4:39), Richter (fall, 0:11), Adam Lohse (6-0) and Solomon Wales (10-3) against United North Central.
UNC took the next three matches, but Sykora won 7-1 at 152 to stop the bleeding for the Knights. Jordan Lohse (10-3 decision), Olson (forfeit), Kisgen (fall, 0:44), Robinson (fall, 4:51) and Colton Lindquist (fall, 0:23) secured the win for their team down the stretch.
