Willmar jumps into third place in West Division after sweep of Blizzard this week

Three goals in each of the first two periods was enough for the WarHawks to leave the Runestone Community Center with a second win this week over Alexandria on Wednesday night.

The Willmar WarHawks beat the Alexandria Blizzard for a second time this week on Wednesday night as Willmar left the Runestone Community Center ahead of Thanksgiving with a 6-3 win.

The Blizzard (9-9, 18 points, fourth in West Division) put 40 shots on goal, but Willmar (9-8-1, 19 points, third in West) scored three goals in each of the first two periods. Ethan Mock, Marcus Mack and Jeremiah Konkel made it 3-0 before the Blizzard’s Wyatt Johnson and Ryan Hadland added goals late in the first to make it 3-2.

Alexandria could not carry that momentum into the second period as the WarHawks got goals from Collin Kerchoff, Tyler Misialek and Ben Luedtke to break things open.

Justin Wasvick scored in the final period for Alexandria. Sean Kenny had two assists for the Blizzard, and Matt Scribner, Johnson, Blaze Braswell and Wasvick all added an assist.

Andrew Tuttle took the loss in goal for Alexandria in 30:42 of playing time as he saved 11 of 17 shots. Bailey Rosch played the final 29:18 and had 12 saves and no goals allowed.
