The West Central Area volleyball team (14-2-1) came home from the Parkers Prairie Tournament as the consolation champions after going 3-1-1 on Saturday.
The Knights beat the Northern Freeze (1-10) twice and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (8-7) around a 1-1 split with New London-Spicer (8-7) and a 25-16, 25-21 loss to Browerville-Eagle Valley (12-2).
“The tournament featured teams that were very evenly matched,” WCA head coach Melissa Foslien said. “(We) didn’t seem ready for the first match against an undefeated Browerville team. The girls played hard. We just did not come out with the energy we needed at the start of the day for a game at that pace. Our block was right on. We just needed to hold our ground a little better, tighten things up.”
Mya Foslien and Elizabeth Rustan each had 30 kills throughout the day. Macy Grosz finished with 76 assists, and Kaitlyn Hansen led the way with 41 digs.
“(We) found our groove and defeated CGB and the Freeze once more to clinch the consolation championship,” coach Foslien said. "Props to Macy Grosz and Madelyn Westrom for their great right-side defense. They really make it look so easy that they might be easily overlooked on the court, but the job that they do is so incredibly important. Without them, we would really struggle. We found today that in order to be the team we want to be, we need to be prepared mentally, early in the morning, or anytime.”
