West Central Area boys win despite high scores at Thumper Pond

Mitch and Marshall Dewey both led the Knights with top-five finishes.

The West Central Area boys golf team finished first at the Ottertail Central Quad County Conference meet at Thumper Pond Golf Course on Tuesday.

Mitch Dewey was third in the meet with an 87 for the Knights, and Marshall Dewey was fourth with an 89. Peyton Hanson shot a 93 and Grant Beuckens rounded out WCA’s team scoring (363) with a 94.

Trevor Swonger of Underwood ran away with the individual win by shooting a 75.

“As usual, all of the scores were a little higher at Thumper Pond Golf Course,” WCA head coach Kraig Hunter said. “It only takes a couple of bad shots to get a couple of double or triple bogeys, which makes your score add up pretty quick. Mitch and Marshall both did a nice job of course management and keeping their golf balls in play to shoot some pretty decent scores for that course."

Hillcrest Lutheran shot a team score of 378 to take second. Ortonville was third at 412, and Pillager rounded out the team scores with a 435.
