Several area wrestlers finished in the medal round, one of those a state championship, during the State Class A individual wrestling tournament last week.
Jake Long of West Central Area captured the 140-pound state title as he cruised through his weight class with wins of 12-0 over Cole Tenson of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, a 3:46 pin over Casey Boettcher of Triton and a 10-6 decision over Zach Kanzenbach of Medford for the honor.
Another area wrestler, Jason Arvidson of Parkers Prairie, was fifth in that weight class.
Minnewaska's Collin Jergenson earned a fifth place finish at 162 pounds, while teammate Brandon Manderschied was sixth at 189 pounds.
Osakis' Cody Torkelson was an entrant at the heavyweight division, but lost his first match to Andrew Wolter of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, then was eliminated after Wolter was defeated in the second round.
