The West Central Area and Ashby volleyball teams went back and forth all night on Monday, but it was the Knights that had the final say in a five-set win.
West Central Area jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to watch the Arrows (0-2) fight back with 28-26 and 25-20 wins in the third and fourth sets. The Knights (1-1) brushed that aside and won 15-12 in the fifth to secure their first win of the season.
“West Central Area is scrappy and rarely lets the ball drop,” Ashby head coach Hayley Stevens said. “They found the holes on the court and capitalized on our hesitation to get the ball at times. Although we served 92%, we made crucial mistakes on the serving line when they really mattered. We pushed through all five and our energy level wasn't lost even after a long night of playing. It took us too long to warm up and come Wednesday against Underwood our hope is that we show up ready to play set one.”
Morgan Stark led WCA with 19 kills, while Brooke Anderson had eight and Elizabeth Rustan six. Anderson and Mya Foslien both had five ace serves, while Foslien also led the defense with 27 digs, and Macy Grosz finished with 36 assists.
Tarryn Hill had 43 digs and 12 assists, while serving 26-of-26 for the Arrows. Ryleigh Brendmoen had a team-high eight kills to go with 40 digs.
