The Minnewaska volleyball team is throwing a wrinkle into the Section 3AA Tournament.
Five days after sweeping third-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins in the tournament opener, the sixth-seeded Lakers turned around on Oct. 29 and swept second-seeded Redwood Valley.
Redwood is 24-6 this season, but the Cardinals had no answer for the Lakers (15-10) on Tuesday night. Minnewaska won by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20.
Ellie Danielson was a force at the net again with a team-high 20 kills, and Emma Thorfinnson added eight kills. Sara Geiser had 31 assists, and Danielson also led the passing game with a team-high 14 digs.
The Lakers will try to continue their run against top-seeded New London-Spicer (27-2) on Halloween night at 7 when the two teams play in Montevideo. These two teams met once during the regular season when NL-S won 2-0 during a weekend tournament match in Glenwood.
