The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team got another Section 6A win on Monday night, this time on the road as the Chargers (8-2) traveled to Wheaton to beat the Warriors (9-4) in four sets.
“Traveling to Wheaton is always tough, having to do it on a Monday makes it even tougher,” B-E head coach Kelly Olson said. “We wanted to keep serving the ball well, and at times we did do that, but missed serves hampered the flow of the match for both teams. I thought we passed the ball okay, but during the third set our serve receive broke down and we just couldn’t dig out of the hole.”
The Chargers dropped that third set 25-16 but had built up a 2-0 lead by that point after 25-19 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets. They did not let the loss linger from the third as Brandon-Evansville cruised in the fourth set, winning 25-12 to secure the match.
“It took until the fourth set for us to really establish how we wanted to play the match because Wheaton did such a great job keeping us out of system with their swings and how they placed the ball,” Olson said.
The Chargers had 49 kills and three different players in double figures. Bailey Schaefer led the way with 18 of those, while Kailee Klimek had 13 and Mikenna Pattrin had 10. Korrie Randt set them up with 39 assists and Schaefer and Brittany Korkowski had a team-high 12 digs.
