The West Central Area volleyball team fell just short in a five-setter against Pelican Rapids on Tuesday night.

The Knights (2-6) were up 2-1 after 26-24 and 25-20 wins in the first and third sets. The Vikings (2-6) rebounded to take the match after a 25-22 win in the fourth and a 15-9 win in the fifth.

“Overall, we improved our play tonight and came out as a team,” WCA head coach Melissa Foslien said. “We had been struggling as of late in meshing together and were in need of a solid performance. The girls played scrappy and with heart. I’m proud of the way the girls fought, and I hope we can rise up and get some wins in the upcoming weeks.”

Liz Rustan had a team-high 10 kills, while Morgan Stark added nine. Hailey Bennett finished with 17 assists, while Kaleigh Anderson led the Knights defensively with 23 digs.
