The Alexandria volleyball team went to Coon Rapids over the weekend and came back with a 2-2 record to move to 4-4 overall this fall.
The Cardinals beat Kaleidoscope Charter in two sets and Cambridge-Isanti in three around a two-set loss to Pine River-Backus and a three-set loss to Robbinsdale Armstrong.
Alexandria dropped 25-22 and 25-13 sets to Pine River-Backus. Mia McGrane led the way with four kills in that one, while Erika Roderick added 11 assists.
The Cardinals dominated against Kaleidoscope Charter with 25-8 and 25-7 wins. Meg Shercliffe had seven aces from the serving line and Maggie Anderson had six kills.
The Cardinals rebounded from a 25-21 loss in the first set against Cambridge-Isanti to win 25-15 and 15-13. Tessa McGrane had 16 digs in that one, while Micaela Nelson had 22 assists and M. McGrane added eight kills.
That win gave Alexandria a second-place finish in its pool and placed the Cardinals into the Gold Bracket. That’s where Alexandria matched up against the top team from the opposite pool in Robbinsdale Armstrong. The Falcons (5-4) rallied around a 25-20 loss in the second set to win the first and third sets by scores of 25-16 and 15-13.
Mia McGrane had eight kills and seven digs against Robbinsdale Armstrong. Nelson had 13 assists and eight digs and Ella Grove and Anderson each finished with three kills.
