The Ashby volleyball team is still looking for its first win of the season after dropping Thursday night’s match in Hancock (1-1) 3-2.

The Arrows (0-4) lost the first set 25-10, but came back strong in the second set to even the score after a 25-9 win. Hancock took the third set 25-14 before Ashby evened the score again with a 25-17 win.

“We came out struggling to put things together in the first (set) but found a groove in the second with great serving,” Ashby head coach Hayley Stevens said. “We are making a lot of changes still and finding that niche together on the court is taking some time, but I really saw it come together tonight with some underclassmen stepping up.”

After four sets of back-and-forth play, the Owls won the fifth set 15-7 and handed the Arrows their fourth loss of the season.

“Our serving improved tremendously from the first couple games and we have been beating ourselves by missing at the line,” Stevens said. “I was very proud of all the girls tonight after a great JV win and the successes we saw on the court with varsity.”

Amelia Barry led the Arrows with 13 assists and 13 digs. Courtney Koefod had 18 digs in the loss.

Ashby will travel to Montevideo this Saturday for a tournament.
