The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Little Eight Conference with a road sweep at Rothsay on Thursday night.

The Chargers breezed through the Tigers in the first set, winning 25-12. Rothsay put up a bigger fight the rest of the way, but B-E held on in each set with 25-18 and 26-24 wins.

“We did a few things better tonight than on Tuesday,” B-E head coach Kelly Olson said. “Focus was one of those things and we saw some good play off the bench with serving and defensive play. I thought we did a better job in serve receive and transition play in the front row.”

Olson would still like to see the Chargers cut down on some of the unforced errors that allowed the Tigers to stick around later in the match, but he was happy with how they responded after it took five sets to beat Battle Lake two nights earlier.

“All our hitters were efficient in their attacks, as well as aggressive,” Olson said. “Serving, although not where we want to be, was much better. We had numerous girls have nice runs from the serving line. Haddey Zastrow finished off the first set with and good run, and Boris Jacobson did a great job coming in to serve in the tight third set.”

Bailey Schaefer had a team-high 11 kills, while Mikenna Pattrin had eight kills and four aces from the serving line. Korrie Randt set her attackers up with 27 assists. The Chargers served at 89.3% overall and Olson was happy with their serve receive, as well.

“Overall, it was a good effort tonight against a resilient Rothsay team,” he said. “Down 0-2, they kept coming at us. We needed to refocus what we do tonight on the court. I think we took a step in the right direction.”

The Chargers will now head to a tournament in Browerville on Saturday with New York Mills, Browerville and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
