Viking Speedway wraps up its summer season with Labor Day Doubleheader

The Alexandria Viking Speedway put the finishing touches on its shortened 2020 summer season this past weekend by hosting a big class of drivers for a Labor Day Doubleheader.

The speedway saw five different drivers take the checkered flag on Sunday night after hosting its annual Fallen Lineman Special Night on Saturday.

Nick Panitzke of Lonsdale won the Limited Late Models feature, and Brendan Blascyk took the win in the Midwest Modifieds feature in a field of 21 drivers on Sunday.

Little Falls’ Landon Atkinson beat 17 other drivers in the Modifieds feature, while Ryan Satter of Dent and Josh Zimpel of Braham won the Street Stock and Super Stock features, respectively.

Saturday night’s races featured a loaded field of 26 drivers in the Modified feature. East Grand Forks’ Dustin Strand proved to be the best of the field. He won the race ahead of Dan Ebert of Lake Shore and Landon Atkinson of Little Falls. Montevideo’s Matt Gilbertson was fourth and Lowry’s Zach Johnson rounded out the top five in fifth place.

Alexandria’s Rick Nelson finished ahead of Ryan Mikkelson in the Limited Late Models feature on Saturday. Blascyk, a Kensington driver, started off his big weekend by winning his first of two Midwest Modifieds features. He won in front of Justin Froemming of Garfield in second and Alexandria’s Shawn Olson in third place.

Morris driver Eric Riley won the Street Stock feature on Saturday. Brooten’s Justin Vogel was second and Russell Kostreba of Zimmerman took third. Trevor Saurer of Dalton wrapped up the weekend’s feature winners as he took the Super Stock race on Saturday in front of Dave Mass of East Bethel and Jeff Crouse of Alexandria in a 21-driver field.
