Veterans ready to lead Osakis boys and girls

Osaki golf coach Jay Johnson lauds the leadership of the experienced players he has back to help the Silverstreaks on both the boys and girls side.

Second-year Osakis boys and girls golf coach Jay Johnson likes the athletes he has back to build around on both teams as the Silverstreaks will lean on that experience this spring.

Kadyn Triebenbach, Katie Helm and Madison Lipke will lead the girls, and Chase Triebenbach and Logan Lipke return as solid players for the boys at the top of the lineup.

“All are great leaders and essential to our unity as a team,” Johnson said. “Athletes are really excited to be back on the golf course. They have relaxed a little on their own expectations for golf scores so far, and a majority of conversations are about how happy they are to be back together and competing. As coaches, we are excited to see what each athlete has to offer the team and help them enjoy their experience.”

Osakis has 16 athletes out for golf in grades 7-12 between the boys and girls rosters.

Kadyn Triebenbach is the lone senior, while Katie Helm, Logan Lipke, Aaron Nack and Hunter Sell make up the junior class. Chase Triebenbach, a freshman, and Logan Lipke were big pieces of a young Osakis boys team the last time they competed two years ago as they now try to take another step with some more experience this spring.

Johnson said the nucleus of returning players he has to work with should be a strength of both the boys and girls teams.

“This group is respectful, hardworking, and committed to a solid golf program,” he said. “The other positive is the ability everyone has to recognize which areas of their game they'd like to improve.”

As a young group outside of those experienced players, Johnson wants his athletes to have a goal of just improving as the season goes on.

“I expect athletes to keep a positive attitude,” Johnson said. “This is a skill they should have been building in the offseason that was the 2020 season. I want a team that enjoys the challenge of improving and is working towards bettering themselves as a person and athlete.”
