The Alexandria dance team had a big weekend with a trip to the Target Center highlighting things before competing at the Fridley Invitational on Saturday.
The varsity kick team got the chance to perform before the start of the Timberwolves game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“The team had a great performance and a lot of fun,” head coach Christine Reilly said. “It is such a great experience to be in that venue performing.”
That was a prelude to the meet in Fridley where the Cardinals’ kick team took eighth place, while the jazz team finished ninth out of 11 Class AA teams. Duluth Denfeld won the jazz competition, while Chisago Lakes came in second.
“The varsity jazz team had good energy and overall a good performance,” Reilly said. “However, the team struggled to hit their turns and that hurt their technique scores a lot.”
The Cardinals were within four points out of a possible 500 of the eighth-place team and six points away from seventh place. Reilly called the performance at the Target Center a good warmup for the kick team heading into Fridley. The Cardinals improved their score by more than 20 points from their first CLC meet.
“They came out even stronger at the Fridley competition,” Reilly said. “The team came in eighth place, which was a bit of a disappointment but it didn’t take away from a major sense of accomplishment. Scores were close between the sixth-eighth place teams. Things are starting to click for this young team and they are starting to see positive results from their hard work at practices.”
Austin won the kick competition, while Chisago Lakes finished second.
