The Alexandria boys track and field team warmed up for the state true team meet on Friday by hosting a home triangular and finishing third against Willmar and Sartell-St. Stephen.

Alexandria held out some athletes from their normal events at the tri ahead of true team and scored 53 points. Willmar won the tri at 72 and the Sabres finished with 61 points.

Alexandria still had plenty of wins to fall back on as Daniel Jantzen helped get the Cardinals going by taking the 110-meter hurdles in 15.82 seconds. Drew Olson also continued his big year with another win in the 100-meter dash, this time in 10.89 seconds. Relay wins came from both the 4x200 (1:31.02), 4x100 (43.38) and 4x400 (4:10.32) teams.

Alexandria’s most dominant event came in the long jump, where the Cardinals took the top three spots. Cody Branson won with a mark of 20-07. Joshua Kietzmann was second at 20-01.5 and Derrek Piepho finished third at 19-10.

Senior Jaymeson Wolkow rounded out Alexandria’s top finishers by winning both throws. He took the discus with a mark of 145-08, more than 11 feet further than second-place finisher Drake Lalim of Sartell. Wolkow also won the shot put after a throw of 49-01.
