The Alexandria boys track and field team made good on an opportunity to establish itself as one of the favorites in the Central Lakes Conference as the Cardinals set 16 personal bests on the way to winning the CLC Indoor title on Saturday at St. John’s University.

Alexandria put up 132.5 points, well in front of Willmar with 88.5 and Brainerd with 83.5.

Senior Drew Olson set one of the Cardinals’ PRs and a new CLC Indoor record with a blazing speed in the 60-meter dash. He won that in 6.88 seconds, besting the previous CLC Indoor record in the event held by Jack Young from Rocori that was set in 2017.

Olson was a two-time individual CLC champ at the indoor meet after also winning the 200-meter dash in 22.96 seconds. Freshman teammate Kristen Hoskins was right behind Olson in second in both events.

Dane Galloway was an individual champion in the 1,600-meter run for Alexandria. He finished in 4:56.76, while the Cardinals also had two winning relay teams. The group of Hoskins, Nolan Morical, Cody Branson and Olson won the 4x200 in 1:35.23. Branson, Joshua Kietzmann, Graham Peterson and Ethan Schroeder won the 4x400 in 3:38.26.

Hoskins added to a nice day for him with a third individual second-place finish by finishing as the runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 20-01. Kietzmann was second in the triple jump with a mark of 41-10.25, as well.
