Alexandria tennis coach Dave Ronning said earlier this season that his girls team featured a group that was going to get better and better as the season went on. His girls keep going out and proving that.

The Cardinals improved to 9-4 overall on Monday night by sweeping a triangular against Little Falls and Moorhead. The match against the Spuds, a team from the Cardinals’ subsection, was the closest as Alexandria prevailed in a 4-3 contest. The Cardinals rolled past the Flyers 6-1 as they won their eighth straight match.

Alexandria got two wins in singles and two more in doubles against the Spuds.

Kaylee Svee got the job done at second singles in a 6-3, 6-4 match, and Jaya Hatlestad won 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles. Whitly Netland and Maci Tilleskjor fought off Emma Craig and Anna Korsmo at second doubles to win 6-3, 7-6 (4), while Autumn Botz and Elle Murphy also won a close match in a 2-6, 6-4, 12-10 final.

“Elle Murphy stepped in and played well with Autumn in the absence of Anna Doherty,” Ronning said. “The match was tightly contested all across the board. This match could have gone either way, but our girls showed everyone that they are a force to be dealt with.”

The Cardinals are still undefeated in the Central Lakes Conference, and they will put that record on the line against the other unbeaten team in the league on Tuesday when Alexandria travels to Brainerd.
