Boys tennis: Alexandria to get rematch with Willmar in 8AA semifinals
The Alexandria boys tennis team will play in the Section 8AA semifinals on Thursday after living up to its top seed in the North subsection on Saturday.
The Cardinals played Moorhead in the subsection tournament in Sartell and won 6-1 to advance to take on Willmar back in Sartell later this week. Alexandria (21-4) swept the singles lineup against the Spuds and took two of three in doubles.
Eli Simonson manned the top singles spot and won a three-setter against Brycen Lunak. JJ Foster won a tight battle at second singles and Alex Jost and Gannon Lueck both won in straight sets.
Jacob Partington and Pieter Mulder cruised in their second doubles match to a 6-0, 6-1 final. Chris Bienusa and Andrew Wegner added the sixth team point with a 7-5, 6-1 win at the third doubles spot.
Alexandria will play Willmar at noon on Thursday at Sartell. Willmar took both regular-season matches between these two teams.
Sartell will play Bemidji on the bottom half of the semifinal bracket. The championship match between the two winners will be played at St. Cloud Apollo at 4 p.m. that same day.
