Devan Swerman had everything working for him on the mound against Fergus Falls on Thursday night for the Alexandria baseball team.

The Cardinals beat Fergus Falls 5-1 behind Swerman’s complete-game three-hitter. Swerman struck out five batters and allowed just one run.

The Alexandria offense produced a first-inning run when Nate Hammerback grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Brock Lerfald. The Cardinals made it 2-0 on a double from JD Hennen in the bottom of the third.

The Otters cut the lead in half with a home run in the top of the third inning, but a three-run fourth inning was all the insurance Swerman needed. Lake Hagen singled in a run before Reid Reisdorf’s bunt caused a throwing error, scoring Brady McCoy. Shay Endres drove in Aiden Staples on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.

Swerman got a pair of groundouts and a strikeout in the top of the seventh to clinch the win.
