Sports briefs: Zupfer named state Coach of the Year; 12-year-old gets ace at Miltona

Zupfer honored after guiding Cardinals to back-to-back state titles.

ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria girls golf coach Tim Zupfer has led the Minnesota State High School League’s top Class AAA program the last two spring seasons, and Zupfer was recently honored for that by earning the state coach of the year award for girls golf.

Zupfer earned the honor from the coaches association. Zupfer guided the Cardinals to back-to-back state championships during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Lauritzen aces hole 4 at Miltona

Kendall Lauritzen, a 12-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska, had a round to remember while golfing at the Lake Miltona Golf Club on Aug. 1.

Lauritzen was golfing with her mother, Emily, and her brother, Bo, when she got a hole-in-one on the par-three fourth hole. The hole was playing at 126 yards.

It was the fourth hole-in-one of the season at Miltona this summer.
