Ashby junior Jaden Norby had already passed the 1,000-career point mark during the 2019-20 season, and head coach John Holsten found out after the season that Norby accomplished an even rarer milestone in the playoffs.

The junior, 6-foot, 4-inch center for the Arrows grabbed his 1,000th-career rebound during the first round of the playoffs against Brandon-Evansville on March 5. Norby finished the season with 1,208 career points and 1,018 rebounds and still has one year to add to those totals.

According to Starbuck’s Matt Pederson, who tracks statewide basketball records, there were nearly 180 active boys players in Minnesota high school basketball this winter season with 1,000-career points. That’s compared to just five players other than Norby with 1,000-career rebounds that Pederson was aware of.

Ashby has not been able to hold its season-ending awards banquet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Arrows finished the season 19-9 and had four players finish averaging double figures in points.

Norby put in 13.1 points and had a team-best 280 rebounds and 107 assists. Sophomore forward Jacob Cook led Ashby in scoring at 14.9 points-per game to go with 150 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Hunter Norby averaged 12.6 points and had a team-best 51 blocks. Another sophomore in guard Torin Olson averaged 11 points, as well.

Ashby’s lone senior in Noah Johnson averaged 7.3 points a night.

Roderick, Hedstrom, Hoskins named All-CLC

The Alexandria boys basketball team has not gotten the chance to hand out its team-voted awards due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Cardinals did receive some postseason recognition from the Central Lakes Conference.
