The Ashby baseball team continued its run of great pitching performances on Saturday when Carter Spangler shut out Pelican Rapids to sweep the weekend doubleheader.
The Arrowed beat the Vikings 8-0 behind Spangler's complete-game shutout. He allowed just three hits and struck out 13 batters. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in Ashby's three-run third inning.
"Carter pounded the zone and was getting all of his pitches over for strikes," Ashby head coach Jared Larson said. "It was a great couple of days of baseball, and I'm very proud of the boys' effort."
Ashby's win over Pelican Rapids followed a 7-4 victory over Morris.
With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth, it was Spangler stepped up in the clutch. He laced an RBI-double to give the Arrows the lead.

Spangler and Jaden Norby each collected two hits in the win, while Hunter Norby was credited with the win. Torin Olson started on the mound and allowed four runs in five innings with six strikeouts. Hunter Norby threw the final two innings and stuck out two batters.
"Torin really battled through some adversity, and Hunter came in and slammed the door," Larson said. "Our defense wasn't as sharp as usual, but our pitchers battled through it, and we had some great at-bats in key times."
