Day one of the Section 8-2A track and field meet that took place in Sartell on June 9 is mostly preliminary events ahead of Saturday’s finals in Fergus Falls, but a few state-meet spots were up for grabs.
Alexandria took three of those as Aleah Miller (3200, first place), Sophia Vinje (discus, first place) and Will Heydt (triple jump, second place) all qualified for the state meet. Four of the 18 events on Wednesday were finals with the top two athletes from those events advancing to state. Top eight athletes in the preliminaries advance to the section finals.
Alexandria athletes qualifying for day two of the section meet are: Lexi Cole (100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles), Hailie Kent (100-meter dash), Nolan Morical (100-meter dash), Elena Fuglestad (400-meter dash), Miah Wessel (400 dash), Marisa Rousu (400 dash), Jack Theien (400 dash), Sophia Korynta (300 hurdles), Gavin Ashmore (300 hurdles), Myah Kremer (800 run), Emma Ecker (800 run), Giselle Jahner (800 run) and Jisella Haskamp (200-meter dash).
Through the first four events that ran as finals on Wednesday, the Alexandria girls are tied with Willmar for the team-score lead with 32 points. Moorhead leads the boys with 45 points, with Alexandria in sixth place with 13 points.
The final day of the Section 8-2A meet starts Saturday in Fergus Falls at 9:30 a.m. for field events and 10 a.m. for track events.
