The Osakis baseball team finished up its regular season with a 14-4 overall record after falling in a pitchers’ duel at Royalton on May 23.

The Silverstreaks already wrapped up the Prairie Conference championship, and part of that was due to a win over the Royals (13-6) on May 16. In the rematch, Royalton walked off with a 2-1 win after rallying for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“I feel like we fell into a little bit of a trap game today,” Osakis head coach Shad Schmidt said. “With being pretty much locked into our seed and winning the conference already, we didn’t play with enough energy. That is my fault. I will own that for not setting the tone for the guys to be ready to go today. Give Royalton credit. They were fighting for that last home playoff spot and wanted it a little more than us today.”

Luke Staloch delivered Osakis’ only run-scoring hit. It came in the top of the sixth when Hunter Infanger got on with a single, and Luke Imdieke advanced him into scoring position with a bunt. Staloch then got a two-out hit to make it 1-0 Silverstreaks.

Royalton’s seventh inning started with a leadoff walk. The Royals followed that with a base hit to put two runners on before their third hitter ended the game with a two-run, walk-off double.

Imdieke started on the mound but did not factor in the decision. He went four frames, allowing two hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Infanger was 2-for-2 at the plate and worked the final three innings on the mound.

“Defensively, we played error free, and pitching was good enough to win even though I feel we walked too many batters,” Schmidt said. “Offensively, we left too many runners on and didn’t have enough quality at-bats consistently. We have moved on and are focusing on our playoff game Monday and will use this to motivate us.”

The Silverstreaks look to be locked into the fifth seed in the Section 6AA playoffs. They will host a first-round game on Monday. Foley (18-2), St. Cloud Cathedral (14-4), Pierz (17-3) and Albany (12-8) make up the rest of the top four in the QRF through Minnesota-scores as of May 24.
