The Alexandria boys soccer team will head into the Section 8A playoffs looking to find its offense after getting shut out for a third straight game on Monday night.
The Cardinals (7-8-1, 5-6 Central Lakes Conference) fell 1-0 at Sartell-St. Stephen to end the regular season. The loss came after Alexandria beat the Sabres (7-6-2, 5-4-2 CLC) 2-0 on Sept. 30. This time, Sartell got the lone goal of the game in the 39th minute.
"(We) battled the last half but were unable to secure enough shots to drive the score higher on our side," head coach Brandon Johnson said. "The Cards played some strong soccer, while they remained composed the entire match. This match ended our long stretch of competing in five games in the past seven days. We are tired and in need of recovering for our playoff rounds."
The Cardinals will try to regroup when they host the winner sixth-seeded Hillcrest Lutheran (6-6-1) on Thursday night at 7. Alexandria did not play Hillcrest Lutheran during the regular season.
The winner of Thursday’s game will travel to second-seeded Pelican Rapids (10-2-3) on Saturday at a time that had yet to be decided as of Oct. 8.
