The Alexandria boys soccer team went north for its season opener on Thursday as the Cardinals came back from East Grand Forks with a 2-2 tie.

Holden Hansen got Alexandria going first when he scored off an assist from Nate Schneiderhan in the eighth minute after a free kick. Almost a minute later, it was 2-0 Cardinals when Joshua Kietzmann dribbled through four players to find the back of the net.

East Grand Forks turned things around in the second half. The Green Wave scored in both the 48th and 56th minute. Neither team could find a winning goal in overtime as they ran to the 2-2 tie.

Alexandria turns around and plays another road game on Saturday. That game is in Detroit Lakes with a 1 p.m. start time.
