Sigel wins battle of buddies for Junior 13-15 title

Ben Sigel of Deephaven had to go through the Junior 13-15 Division medalist and a friend of his from the same city on Saturday, but he did that with relative ease on his way to a Resorters title.

Ben Sigel of Deephaven had to go through the Junior 13-15 Division medalist and a friend of his from the same city on Saturday, but he did that with relative ease on his way to a Resorters title.

Sigel was on his game from the get-go as he used a birdie on No. 1 to grab a lead that he never relinquished against Reece Sanders. Sanders, also from Deephaven, had looked like the favorite for most of the week but he didn’t have an answer for Sigel as he shot 4-under through the 14-hole win.
“I’d like to thank my parents for putting me out here and the staff of the Alexandria Golf Club,” Sigel said during the awards ceremony. “They did a great job for this tournament.”
Sigel simply wasn’t going to get beat by anyone in the division on this day. He followed that birdie on 1 with par wins on 5 and 6 but still led by just two at the turn after a birdie win for Sanders on No. 8.
That’s when Sigel kicked it into overdrive. He eagled the par-4 11th and came back with a birdie win on 12. Both players halved the par-3 13th, but a par win on 14 was all Sigel needed to wrap up his title.
It was a unique situation for both players who golf together often. Sigel and Sanders are actually neighbors who can frequently be found on the golf course together back home. This time there was a little extra on the line as Sigel earned some bragging rights with his Resorters championship.
