Roundup: Cardinals fall to eighth-ranked Pequot Lakes, Knights get another big win

West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville won a 12th straight match on Tuesday, including a 33-30 victory over Class AA's ninth-ranked Thief River Falls.

The Alexandria wrestling team (14-13) got in a match against a good team Tuesday night as the Cardinals fell in a 47-24 final at Class AA’s eighth-ranked Pequot Lakes-Pine River-Backus (25-4).

Mason McGrane continues to wrestle well this season as he beat Parker Zutter in a 7-1 decision at 106 pounds. Zutter had a 17-3 record coming into the night.

Pequot Lakes responded with two falls and a technical fall in the next three weight classes before senior AJ Sparr pinned Sean Kilpatrick in 1:19 at 132 pounds. Kelly Johnson added a 4-2 decision win for Alexandria at 145, and Tate Runge (152, 10-5), JP Rodel (160, fall, 1:30) and Mason Teaser (182, 4-0) all added wins for the Cardinals.

Lakers dominate Barnesville

Minnewaska dominated Barnesville in a 66-7 final on Tuesday.

Nick Ankeny started it with a pin in 54 seconds at 106. Jayce Kovarik, Chase Smith, Max Reichmann, Dalton Friedrichs and Chase Boelke all had forfeit wins, and Jacob Blair (132, tech fall, 15-0), Caden Koziol (138, 16-8 MD), Myles Reichmann (145, 8-2), Ryan VanLuik (182, fall, 1:37), Tyson Meyer (195, fall, 1:32) and Jakob Swalla (285, fall, 1:22) all had contested wins.

Knights grab another big win

West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville (22-3) got another win against a state-ranked team by edging Class AA’s ninth-ranked Thief River Falls on Tuesday in a 33-30 final.

It was close throughout, but pins from Mason Richter (113, 1:42), Adam Lohse (120, 1:43) and Solomon Wales (126, 0:32) proved important for WCA. Beau Robinson (182, 2:57) added a pin, and Ashton Danner (138, 5-0), Anthony Sykora (160, 10-5) and Colton Lindquist (220, 7-1) helped secure the team victory.

The Knights also rolled over Park Rapids Area in a 63-12 final. Richter (113, fall, 4:10), Adam Lohse (120, fall, 0:50), Wales (126, fall, 3:10) and Reubens Swanson (145, 7-2) had contested wins.

Osakis drops two

Osakis (2-25) fell by a 54-24 final against Hibbing and a 53-7 score against Pierz on Tuesday.

Logan Grove (120, 6-3) and Kale Drevlow (145, 15-2 MD) had wins against Pierz, while the Silverstreaks got four six-point victories against Hibbing. Grove got a pin at 120 in 3:47, and Drevlow (145, 1:27), Gaven Cimbura (132, forfeit) and Carsten Jacobson (138, forfeit) added to the team total.

Raiders dominate again

Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie (22-7) dominated a couple matches in a 61-10 victory over Eden Valley-Watkins and a 56-12 win over Milaca-Faith Christian Tuesday.

Bennet Arceneau (106, forfeit), David Revering (113, fall, 2:00), Deagen Captain (120, fall, 0:32), Aiden Larson (126, tech fall, 15-0), Reese Thompson (132, 7-2), Blake Sumstad (138, forfeit), Mason Schroeder (160, fall, 0:21), Hunter Dean (170, fall, 2:00), Tyler Eggert (182, 7-2), Gideon Ervasti (195, fall, 1:39) and James Grant (220, 6-2) had wins against Milaca.

Arceneau, Revering, and Larson had forfeit wins against Eden Valley. Captain (120, 14-2 MD), Thompson (132, 11-6), Sumstad (138, 12-5), Justin Koehn (145, fall, 2:57), Schroeder (160, fall, 1:29), Dean (170, fall, 0:51), Eggert (182, fall, 4:59), Ervasti (195, fall, 1:43) and Grant (220, 8-4) added contested wins.
