The Brandon-Evansville baseball team continued its recent stretch of solid play by winning a fifth straight game in a 7-3 win over Browerville-Eagle Valley on April 26.

The Chargers (5-1) jumped on the Tigers (0-3) with runs in each of the first five innings. Tyler Bitzan got it started with a run-scoring double in the first inning, and Kyle Schaffran added two runs scored and an RBI single in the game.

Bitzan was equally as impressive on the mound where he went 4.2 innings and did not allow a run. He struck out seven around four walks and one hit allowed.

“We had many contributions from a lot of different players and we’re seeing different kids step up when needed both offensively and defensively,” B-E head coach Brian Perleberg said. “Tyler Bitzan and Dezmond White both pitched with confidence and continued finding ways to get outs and are getting more comfortable with every inning pitched.

“Titus Fuller and Brady Perleberg turned in a couple of impressive defensive plays, while Riley Perleberg has adjusted nicely to the catcher's position and has played well offensively. Tonight, we got Jayden Hoidahl into the lineup for the first time this season, which gave our outfield a boost and Kyle Schaffran is seeing the ball very well at the plate. We still have plenty of work to do and are looking forward to a few days of preparation after playing five games in a row since our last practice.”

Ashby cruises to 6-0

Ashby is looking very much like a contender through a 6-0 start after sweeping Border West (0-4) in 12-2 and 13-0 games on Tuesday.

“We had solid performances on the mound and hit the ball hard today,” Ashby head coach Jared Larson said. “It was fun to see Zach Fagre, Sam Sorenson and Bradee Christiansen get some playing time as well. Two great team wins.”
