The offensive depth of both Alexandria and Osakis is wearing down many opposing teams this season.

The Alexandria softball team has its team batting average up to .360 on the season after another explosive doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.

The Cardinals (13-3, 9-3 Central Lakes Conference) have a team on-base percentage of .457. Those numbers start to skyrocket in wins like Tuesday where Alexandria beat St. Cloud Apollo (1-13, 1-10 CLC) 16-1 and 17-7.

The Cardinals had 11 hits and used eight Apollo errors to blow things open in game two. Madi Heid led that charge with a double, a single, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Alexandria trailed 3-2 heading to the fourth inning of game one, but 15 runs over the final three frames turned the tide. The Cardinals had 17 hits in the opener, with Emma Magaard, Emily Harris and Kinzie Johnson each putting up three and combining for seven runs and eight RBIs.

The Cardinals were originally scheduled to host 15-1 Sartell-St. Stephen on Thursday, but that doubleheader has been postponed to May 21.

Osakis moves to 9-1

Osakis has followed a similar lead to Alexandria this season with an offense that can pile on runs.

The Silverstreaks are 9-1 after sweeping Upsala (3-8) in 6-1 and 17-6 games on Tuesday. Osakis had 18 hits in that 17-6 win. Maggie Dirkes homered in the game, while Grace Oeltjen, Tia Dykema, Laynee Hartshorn, Kennedy George and Hayleigh Niehoff all had three hits. It made a winner out of Niehoff from the circle as she followed up tossing a four-inning no-hitter the day before by going all seven innings.

Shelbe Schmidt shut the door on Upsala in the 6-1 win. She allowed just five hits over seven innings and worked around five walks. Schmidt struck out two.

A four-run third inning was enough to get the job done offensively. Oeltjen, Dykema, Niehoff and Lexi Klimek all had two hits in that game.
