A field-best three birdies in Monday’s qualifying round fueled Davis Johnson of Chaska to the top seed in match play in the Junior 13-15 division.
Johnson picked up birdies on hole Nos. 6, 11 and 12 en route to a three-over 75 to open his Resorters run at the Alexandria Golf Club.
Behind him, Minnewaska’s Cole Harste took second place with a six-over 78, while Alexandria’s Hannah Boraas shot third with a plus-nine 81.
Boraas birdied both Nos. 12 and 16, sliding her into a top-three spot. Harste earned his position through one birdie and 11 pars, the latter tied with Johnson and fourth-place finisher Kyndall Shamblin (11-over, 83) of Cleveland, TN for the most in the field.
A 94 was the cut, as Isabelle Johnshoy snuck into the 16th and final qualifying spot with a 22-over. She faced Johnson for the first round of match play, and the duo was paired to tee off with eighth-seeded Zach Stennes (plus-13 85) and ninth-seeded Ben Peterson (plus-13 85).
