ALEXANDRIA — Cory Pelzel knocked the top seed from the Men’s Regular first flight out of the championship running on Thursday morning.
Pelzel, seeded eighth, won a 2-1 match over Jack Cummings. Pelzel will now face fifth-seeded Luke Resler in the semifinals on Friday morning. Joining them at 8:10 a.m. from the first tee box will be seventh-seeded Riley Larson and third-seeded Logan DuBe.
Here is a recap of how all of them got past their quarterfinal matches.
Pelzel def. Cummings, 2-1
Pelzel found himself down by one at the turn to 10 against Cummings, but he stepped up his play on the back nine to get the win.
Cummings’ wins came with birdies on Nos. 2 and 9 around a par win at 8. He could not take another hole the rest of the way.

Pelzel made birdie on the par-five 12th and then added a par win at 13 to take his first lead. Both players bogeyed the par-five 14th, but Pelzel bounced right back with a birdie win at 15. He never wavered from there, parring both 16 and 17 to halve the holes and secure the win.
Resler def. Ballou, 3-1
Like Pelzel, Luke Resler used a strong back nine to knock off his opponent, fourth-seeded Andrew Ballou, in a 3-1 final.
Ballou was up one after 10 by taking both 9 and 10 with pars. That’s when Resler kicked things into gear. He carded back-to-back birdies at Nos. 13 and 14, taking both holes to move to 1-up.
That was part of eight holes on the back nine where Resler shot 3-under par. His par win at 16 moved him to 2-up and a birdie win on 17 ended the match in style.
Larson def. Stedronsky, 4-3
Riley Larson was equally as impressive on the back nine in his 4-3 win over Blake Stedronsky.
Larson won holes 10-13 with a par, two birdies and a bogey to turn what was an even match at the turn into a 4-up lead. Stedronsky won 14 with a birdie, but Larson shot right back and got a birdie win of his own at the par-four 15th.
DuBe def. Peterson, 2-1
Logan DuBe shot a 37 on the front nine on Thursday to propel him past 11th-seeded Zach Peterson in a 2-1 final.
DuBe highlighted his front with a birdie win at 2 and then added par wins on Nos. 3, 7, 8 and 9. His birdie win at 12 on the par five helped him gather plenty of momentum as he held off Peterson down the stretch to move on to the semifinals.
