Wrestling roundup: WCA-A-B-E beats Detroit Lakes; Minnewaska sweeps Osakis triangular

West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville earned a win at Detroit Lakes on Friday, while Minnewaska earned two wins in Osakis.

The West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville team had just one dual this weekend; a 51-27 win at Detroit Lakes on Friday.

WCA-A-B-E started off the dual with pins by Evan Dingwall at 106 (3:44) and Owen Gruchow at 113 (0:23).

DL tied the dual with pins at 120 and 126, but WCA-A-B-E responded well with pins by Adam Lohse at 132 (1:43) and Solomon Wales at 138 (0:53).

The Lakers picked up wins at 145 and 152, but the Knights had a pin by Ezekiel Sieckert at 160 (1:06) and a win by forfeit at 170.

Anthony Sykora, who recently broke the WCA-A-B-E school record for career wins, earned a 4-1 at 182. WCA-A-B-E sealed the dual win with pins by Beau Robinson at 195 (4:27) and Will Rustan at 220 (1:49)

WCA-A-B-E wrestles at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Minnewaska beats Osakis, New York Mills

Minnewaska capped off a solid week with a pair of wins in Osakis on Friday. Minnewaska defeated Osakis, 47-31, and New York Mills, 49-27.

Osakis began the dual with an 8-6 win from Reggie George at 106 and a 10-2 major decision from Simon Jacobson at 113.

Chase Smith (120) put Minnewaska on the board with a pin (0:24), but Osakis responded with a pint by Jacob Taplin (1:20) at 126.

Minnewaska rattled off three-straight wins with pins by Mason Schiffler at 132 (2:46), Nick Ankeny at 138 (1:21), and Jayce Kovarik at 145 (17-2 technical fall).

Kale Drevlow picked up a pin at his match at 152 (0:17) and Gaven Cimbura at 160 (3:01).

Minnewaska finished the dual with pins by Myles Reichmann at 170 (1:13), Xander Johnson at 182 (0:26), Chase Boelke at 195 (1:54), and Noah Jensen at 220 (0:41).

Osakis won by forfeit at 285.

Minnewaska won two bouts via forfeit against New York Mills. Ankeny, Kovarik, Nathan Dell (152), Boelke, and Jensen all had pins, while Johnson had a 16-7 major decision.

Osakis also had a close loss to New York Mills (42-35) and a 53-22 loss to United North Central.

Osakis had a 35-12 lead heading into the final five weights, but New York Mills earned five-straight first period pins to end the dual.

Osakis jumped out to a 23-6 lead after two wins by forfeit, major decisions by Ashton Pastian at 106 (14-5) and Taplin (18-5), and a 10-6 decision from Tucker Hagen at 138.

Drevlow and Cimbura also had pins in the dual (2:02 for Drevlow and 1:47 for Cimbura).

Along with a win by forfeit, Osakis also had wins against United North Central with a 10-2 major decision by George and pins by Drevlow (1:59) and Cimbura (1:43).

Minnewaska wrestles next at Eden Valley-Watkins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Osakis wrestles Saturday in the Park Region Conference meet in New York Mills on Saturday, Feb. 4.
