Wrestling roundup: Osakis, WCA-A-B-E, B-H-V-PP, and Minnewaska grind out wins
Osakis, WCA-A-B-E, B-H-V-PP, and Minnewaska all earned at least one win in duals on Tuesday.
The Osakis wrestling team went 1-1 in duals on Tuesday at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle with a 57-21 win over Ottertail Central and a 48-22 loss to LPGE=Browerville.
Osakis won its first match in the LPGE-Browerville as Reggie George earned a 7-4 decision at 106 pounds. LPGE-Browerville, the No. 9 ranked team in Class A by The Guillotine, then won the next four matches and never looked back.
Kale Drevlow (152) earned a first period pin (0:39), while Zachary Winkle (285) earned a second period pin (3:21), Gaven Cimbura (160) earned a 3-1 decision, and Lukas Duchene (138) earned a 10-0 major decision.
Osakis earned three-straight pins to open the dual against LPGE-Browerville. Ashton Pastian (106) earned a pin in the first period (1:59), and so did George (113 - 0:47), and Simon Jacobson earned a third period pin (120 - 5:06).
The Silverstreaks also had pins from Jacob Taplin (132 - 2:49), Drevlow (0:38), Cimbura (2:27), and Andrew Ziesmer (182 - 5:56).
Osakis won three weights via forfeit and also had a 7-6 decision from Zackery Bruder at 126.
Osakis hosts Minnewaska Area, New York Mills, and United North Central starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Minnewaska sweeps home duals
The Minnewaska Lakers swept its home duals on Tuesday, defeating Kimball Area, 51-28, and Sauk Centre-Melrose, 48-29.
Minnewaska earned nine pins in the win over Kimball Area, along with a 12-5 decision from Noah Jensen (220).
Miles Wildman started the dual with a first period pin (0:15) at 106, while Chase Smith had a 13-second pin (120), and Mason Schiffler at 132 had a first period pin as well (1:13).
Nick Ankeny earned a pin as well at 138 (2:34), while Jayce Kovarik (145) did the same as well (2:29), Nathan Dell (152) had a first period pin (1:14), Xander Johnson (182) earned a second period pin (2:20), and Eric Bowen (285) earned a pin in the 30 seconds.
The Lakers had three pins against the Mainstreeters and four wins via forfeit. Smith earned a pin (3:20), Dell did as well (0:32), and Myles Reichmann did too at 160 (0:13). Wildman earned a 2-1 decision to start the dual, while Nick Ankeny earned a 5-4 decision.
WCA-A-B-E splits BOLD triangular
The West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville wrestling team, which is ranked No. 11 in the Class A team rankings by The Guillotine, went 1-1 in dual on Tuesday in Olivia.
WCA-A-B-E earned a 66-15 win over BOLD but lost a close 41-31 dual against Minneota.
Minnoeta is ranked No. 6 in the Class A team rankings.
WCA-A-B-E won six out of 14 matches against Minneota, starting with a pin by Owen Gruchow at 106 pounds (0:49). Solomon Wales also earned a win at 138 (1:26) and Hunter Gruchow did the same at 152 (0:27). Anthony Sykora earned a nine-second pin at 195, while Carter Lohse earned a 9-4 decision at 126 and Beau Robinson earned an 8-0 major decision at 220.
WCA-A-B-E had seven pins and four wins via forfeit against BOLD. Evan Dingwall had the first pin of the dual at 106 (4:35), while Owen Gruchow had one at 113 (0:53), Lohse did so at 126 (0:23) and Wales had one at 138 (0:51). Adam Lohse earned a pin at 145 (1:27), Ezekiel Sieckert at 160 (2:45) and Sykora had one at 182 (0:19).
The Knights wrestle in Detroit Lakes starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
BHVPP earn a pair of wins
The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie Raiders earned a pair of victories in Pelican Rapids on Tuesday as it beat Staples-Motley 39-34 and Pelican Rapids, 58-19.
BHVPP had pins from David Revering at 152 (1:56) and Braden Shamp at 220 (0:53) against Staples-Motley and also had two wins by forfeit.
Orran Hart (113) earned an 11-0 major decision, while Bennet Arceneau (132) earned a 15-3 major decision and Cayden Kimber (170) earned an 8-0 major decision.
Blake Sumstad (160) earned a 6-5 decision.
BHVPP won the first 10 matches against Pelican Rapids, five of which were pins. Isaac Grabow (106) earned a third period pin (5:23), Hart earned a first period pin (1:47), as did Arceneau (0:38), Revering (1:07) and Kimber (0:44).
Hudson Traux (113) earned a 15-0 technical fall win and so did Deagen Captain at 145. Justin Olson picked up a 6-2 decision at 126, while Evan Jares earned an 8-6 decision. BHVPP won two weights by forfeit.
BHVPP competes in a triangular at New York Mills starting a 5 p.m. on Thursday.
