Wrestling roundup: Alexandria and Osakis earn a win, Minnewaska sweeps triangular

Alexandria earned a large win over Sauk Rapids-Rice, while Osakis beat Benson, and Minnewaska went 2-0 on Thursday.

The Alexandria wrestling team went 1-1 in duals on Thursday as it lost 59-7 to Willmar but beat Sauk Rapids-Rice 60-18 in Willmar.

Nolan Fettig and Luke Maanum picked up Alexandria’s lone wins in the dual against Willmar as Fettig earned a 9-1 major decision at 106, and Maanum did so with a pin (0:45) at 285.

Alexandria had eight wins via forfeit against Sauk Rapids-Rice, and a pin by Logan Timm at 120 (2:16)/

Alexandria is listed in the MSHSL Girls Section 5 & 8 Tournament on Saturday in Sartell and awaits its postseason matchup for the Section 8AA Team Tournament next week.

Osakis defeats Benson, fall to Minneota, Border West

The Osakis wrestling team ended its regular season in Benson by earning a 39-31 win over the host team but was on the losing end of its dual against Border West (39-27) and Minneota (44-27).

After falling behind 10-0 against Benson two matches in, Osakis won six straight matches, four of which were pins (Zackery Bruder, Christian Nathe, Jacob Taplin, and Lukas Duchene). Tucker Hagen, Kale Drevlow, Gaven Cimbura, and Conner Koep also picked up wins in the dual win.

Border West won three out of the last five weights against Osakis to earn the 39-27 win. Osakis had pins in the dual from Simon Jacobson, Kale Drevlow, and Conner Koep, along with a win by forfeit and a decision from Cimbura.

Against Minneota, Osakis picked up decisions from Taplin, Bruder, and Koep, while Drevlow, Zachary Winkle, and Nathe picked up pins.

Osakis has some girls wrestling in the MSHSL Girls Section 6 & 7 Tournament on Saturday in Sartell and will then begin the Section 6A Team Tournament.

Minnewaska sweeps Thursday triangular

Minnewaska ended its regular season on a good note with a 54-27 win over Barnesville on Thursday and a 51-28 win over Otter Tail Central.

Against Barnesville, Minnewaska picked up four wins via forfeit, pins by Miles Wildman, Nick Ankeny, Cole Kittleson, Xander Johnson, Zayden Johnson, and Noah Jensen.

Against OTC, Ankeny picked up a 9-3 decision, while the Lakers won one bout via forfeit and had pins from Wildman, Jude Bailey, Chase Smith, Jayce Kovarik, Nathan Dell, Myles Reichmann, and Xander Johnson.

Minnewaska is set to wrestle in the MSHSL Girls Section 5 & 8 Tournament on Saturday and then will wrestle in the Section 5A Team Tournament the following week.
