Wrestling: Alexandria splits duals at Rocori; BHVPP goes 2-0 in New York Mills

Alexandria earned a win over St. Cloud Tech on Thursday, while Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie earned a win over New York Mills and LPGE-Browerville

The Alexandria wrestling team went 1-1 on Thursday as it earned a 51-26 win over St. Cloud Tech, but had a slim 40-34 loss to Rocori.

Rocori won the first four out of six weight classes against Alexandria. Alexandria had two wins via forfeit. Kelly Johnson (170) earned a first period pin (0:13), while Cody Vatsnald (195) did the same (0:58), and so did Luke Maanum (0:07), while Nolan Fettig opened up the dual with a 9-1 major decision.

Along with five wins by forfeit, Alexandria had pins against St. Cloud Tech from Drayson Elfering at 113 (3:47), Zachary Richards at 120 (3:00), and Vatsnald (2:43). Fettig earned a 7-0 decision to start the dual.

Alexandria hosts Morris Area-Hancock-Area-Chokio-Alberta on Thursday, Feb. 2, starting at 5 p.m.

Raiders earn a pair of wins

The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie Raiders had a successful Thursday night in New York Mills as it beat New York Mills 47-30 and LPGE-Browerville 38-30.

After three forfeits gave LPGE-Browerville a 30-28 lead with two matches to go, BHVPP’s Braden Shamp earned a 9-1 major decision at 220, and Hunter Strom earned a third period pin (2:58) to seal the win.

Hudson Traux opened the dual with an 8-5 decision at 106, and Justin Olson earned a 17-5 major decision at 120.

BHVPP rattled off four straight pins from Deagan Captain at 138 (0:25), David Revering at 145 (1:32), and Blake Sumstad at 152 (4:01).

BHVPP earned five wins via forfeit against New York Mills, while Revering had a pin (1:00), Cayden Kimber (170) did as well (5:12), and Bennet Arceneau (132) earned a 16-1 technical fall win.

BHVPP wrestles in a triangular at Henning High School starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
