Wrestling: Alexandria shines on Senior Night

Alexandria outscored Albany and Sauk Centre-Melrose 132-36 on Senior Night and went 2-0 on the night.

The Alexandria wrestling program had a very successful Senior Night as it earn a dominant 72-12 win over the Sauk Centre-Melrose Defenders and a convincing 60-24 win over Albany Huskies.

At Tuesday’s triangular, Alexandria recognized its seniors, Landon Arvidson, Kelly Johnson, Caleb Laurent, Blaze Nelson, Jordan Nicholson, Isaac Saffert, Ashton Schlosser, Landon Seward, Cody, and Cole Vatsnald.

Against Sauk Centre-Melrose, Alexandria earned four wins by forfeit, while Nelson earned a six-point win (Def.), and Alexandria collected six pins in the dual.

Nolan Fettig (106) earned a first period pin (1:59), and so did Ty Larson (0:22) at 113. The Cardinals also had pins from Logan Timm at 120 (3:07), Mason McGrane at 126 (4:25), Arvidson at 152 (3:19), and Luke Maanum at 285 (0:54).

The Cardinals had seven wins via forfeit against Albany, while Nelson and Zachary Brezina (138) earned first period pins (1:12 for Nelson, and 1:50 for Brezina).

Alexandria is now 22-9 in dual meets this season, according to Minnesota-scores.net.

The Cardinals have two wrestlers who were ranked in the Jan. 26 edition of The Guillotine’s Class AA rankings, Fettig, who is ranked No. 5 at 106, and McGrane is ranked No. 7 at 126.

Alexandria wraps up the regular season with duals in Willmar on Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
