ST. JOSEPH - The Osakis boys tennis team started off its season Thursday and nearly found itself in the win column. But it wasn’t meant to be as St.John’s/St. Cloud Cathedral defeated Osakis 4-3.
“We had a good first day in our match versus SJP/ Cathedral,” Osakis head coach Ryan Maddock said.
Osakis went 2-2 in singles competition with junior Isaac Maddock at first singles and 8th-grader Tyler Stier at fourth singles picking up wins in straight sets.
“All the guys had good effort,” Ryan Maddock said. “Isaac and Tyler had nice wins at singles. Bryce [Moen] and Micah [Moore] had good, competitive matches as well.”
The Silverstreaks opened up the doubles competition with a win by the team of juniors Connor Gulbranson and Marcus Wolf in three sets.

SJP/Cathedral shut the door on Osakis from there, winning the last two doubles matches in straight sets to win the dual 4-3.
“Marcus [Wolf] and Connor [Gulbranson] got a big win, and our first-year players at the other doubles spots got some good experience,” Ryan Maddock said.
The Silverstreaks are back in action on Saturday in a quadrangular at Alexandria High School beginning at 10 a.m.
