Tennis: Alex girls top Sauk Rapids-Rice but fall to Perham/New York Mills

Alexandria is set for its final home match of the regular season on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. against Fergus Falls.

The Alexandria girls tennis team split its two most recent matches, beating Sauk Rapids-Rice 6-1 on Thursday, Sept. 22, and falling to Perham/New York Mills, 4-3 on Monday.

Alexandria won matches at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 singles against Perham/New York Mills, but Perham/New York Mills won the match at No. 4 singles and all three doubles matches.

“The Yellowjackets are rated second in the sub-section (8AA North) and had a bit more than we did in close matches,” Alexandria head coach Nick Jansen said.

Marisa Rousu, Rachel Wegner, and Kylie Lattimer earned the Cardinals' three wins on Monday.

Against Sauk Rapids-Rice, Wegner, Lattimer, and Teresa Bitzan earned wins at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles, respectively.

The teams of Chelby Runge/Jalyn Halverson, Ayla Rolin/Morgan Aure, and Faith Odland/Katelyn Thiery earned the doubles wins for the Cardinals against the Storm. Runge and Halverson lost the first set of their match but rallied back to win by winning sets two and three.

The Cardinals' final home match of the season comes on Tuesday against Fergus Falls at 4:30 p.m.
