After scoring two runs off of errors in the top of the sixth inning, the Osakis softball team found itself in a tie game at 4 with the Swanville Bulldogs. But with an RBI single by Therese Bryce in the bottom of the seventh, Swanville came out on top 5-4.

“Overall, we played a good game, especially for our first day outside,” Osakis head coach John Stigman said. “We waited a long couple of weeks to get this season going, so it felt good to be playing.”

The Silverstreaks didn’t have much of a problem getting runners on as they reached base on 12 of their 26 at-bats (nine walks and three hits). However, they left 13 runners left on base.

“We just didn’t get the hits we needed when we needed them,” Stigman said.

Osakis had three hits on Thursday, two by senior Shelbe Schmidt and one by freshman first baseman Charlee Thieschafer. Schmidt pitched all seven innings for the Silverstreaks and struck out two batters.

“Shelbe threw a solid game and defensively we played fine,” Stigman said.

The Silverstreaks got the scoring started with a run in the second inning after senior outfielder Kennedy George drew a walk when the bases were loaded.

The Bulldogs swung the momentum in their favor in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs off of a three-run double by center fielder Lauren Miller.

Avery Douglas earned the win for the Bulldogs in the circle with five strikeouts and she allowed four earned runs.

Osakis is back in action on Friday against Eden Valley-Watkins at 2 p.m. at St. Bens.
