The Minnewaska softball team took on Melrose Thursday in a doubleheader and fell by a wide margin in both contests.
Minnewaska got some hits in game one but didn’t produce any runs in a 13-0 loss in five innings. The Lakers had six hits in the game, led by Leslie Murken with two. Murken, Leslie Drewes, Grace Jensen, Olivia Richards and Maddy Meulebroeck all had hits for Minnewaska.
Melrose had 15 hits in game one, led by Kaydence Bertram with three. Melrose scored a run in each inning, including a five-run second inning. All nine Melrose batters had a hit in game one. Briana Maus hit a home run for Melrose.
Brenna Larson pitched in game one for the Lakers and she recorded five strikeouts in the loss. Marnie Grieve pitched for Melrose and struck out two batters.
Melrose’s Ellie Grieve nearly had a perfect game in game two of the doubleheader. She threw a no hitter, had only one walk and struck out four batters in a 11-0 win for Melrose in five innings.

Paige Gruber hit a home run for Melrose. The majority of the Melrose runs came in the bottom of the third inning when it scored eight runs. Melrose had eight hits in game two.
Jensen got the start in the circle for the Lakers in game two and recorded two strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Minnewaska hosts a tournament on Saturday, weather permitting, that features a 9:30 a.m. game against Breckenridge, an 11 a.m. game against Otter Tail Central and a 12:30 p.m. game against Brandon-Evansville.
