OSAKIS — The Osakis girls basketball team (19-5, 8-0 Prairie Conference) ran its winning streak to nine games on Thursday night by rolling over Swanville (12-9) in conference play.
The Silverstreaks led 40-15 at the half and took the game by a 69-31 final. It wrapped up a perfect run through Osakis' Prairie-Conference-championship season.
"Swanville came into the game winning 8 of their last 9 games,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “With this being our last conference game, we wanted to make sure we ended with an undefeated record in the conference. The girls played really hard and everyone contributed with 11 of the 12 girls scoring.”
Osakis shot 44% overall. Alexis Johanson had 18 points and also tied fellow senior guard Tessa Stanek with a team-high 5 steals. The Silverstreaks had 21 steals overall.
“It's fun to watch the girls play well together with all of them doing their part,” Kalpin said. “I thought we defended well again, and offensively, we took care of the ball and took good shots. It was nice to see so many girls make shots. We were able to open the game up midway through the first half with two consecutive threes by Lexi Spychalla. Then Lexi Klimek hit one, followed by Hayleigh Niehoff on four consecutive possessions.”

Osakis has two more regular-season games at home to try to reach the 20-win mark. Both come against Section 6AA programs as Holdingford (15-7) comes to town on Feb. 22 before Sauk Centre (18-6) on Feb. 24.
The Silverstreaks’ winning streak has moved them up the Section 6AA pecking order with the playoffs looming. Osakis is currently sixth in the 15-team field through the QRF on Minnesota-scores.net.
