The Osakis girls basketball team made quick work of Benson on Friday as the Silverstreaks improved to 14-5 ahead of a big Section 6AA game against Kimball Area on Tuesday.
Osakis held Benson (2-12) to just 18.2% shooting and countered by shooting 43.5% itself in a 56-18 win. Hayleigh Niehoff was 6-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three, for a game-high 20 points on a night the Silverstreaks’ defense forced 34 Benson turnovers.
“We played aggressively on the defensive end and moved the ball well offensively,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “All the girls played hard and contributed to this win. We were able to try some new things offensively that we’ve been working on. There are still some areas we need to clean up yet, but we are doing a great job of trying to work on areas we need improvement on. Individually, Hayleigh Niehoff had a great game shooting the ball. Definitely a great team win."
The Silverstreaks now host a 15-5 Kimball Area team on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. Kimball is currently the fourth-ranked team in a loaded Section 6AA field where 11 of the 15 programs in the section are three games or more above .500.
The Silverstreaks are currently 10th in those 6AA rankings through the QRF on Minnesota-scores.net. Albany is first with a 14-4 overall record.
