A strong night by Barnesville’s defense gave it a 56-39 win over the Osakis girls basketball team on Friday.

Osakis (9-9) started off the game well as it led by eight, but as the first half wore on, Barnesville (11-8) began to take control of the game.

“As the half went on, Barnesville did a nice job of taking away things from us on the offensive end, making things difficult for us,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “We were forced to take some difficult shots, which allowed them to get their transition game going. I thought we played really hard again, and as the game went on, we got better. We still need to get better at executing offensively versus pressure and not get in a hurry. It takes time to learn this, and we continue to make positive strides. We just need to stay focused and keep working hard.”

Bella Wessier was the leading scorer on the night for Osakis as she finished with 11 points, while Taylor Dirkes had nine points and seven rebounds.

Osakis plays on the road at Kimball Area (13-6) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. Kimball Area eliminated Osakis last season with a 48-43 win in the second round of the Section 6AA playoffs.
