Boys Hockey: The St. Cloud Crush edge out Alexandria

The St. Cloud Crush handed the Alexandria boys just its second loss in conference play this season, with a 2-1 win on Tuesday.

The Alexandria boys hockey team came off its 5-4 loss to Duluth Denfeld on Saturday with another one-goal loss on Saturday, with a 2-1 loss to the St. Cloud Crush (8-10-1, 6-1 Central Lakes Conference) on the road on Tuesday.

St. Cloud took a 1-0 lead in the first with a goal by Nick Bierschbach goal in the first period. After an Andrew Cumming goal five minutes into the second frame, Alexandria’s Keegan Lucy scored a goal on assists from Leo Kompelien and Gage Castle to cut St. Cloud’s lead to 2-1.

Lucy’s goal midway through the second period was the last goal of the game, and St. Cloud held on to win.

Alexandria is now 8-12-1 (5-2-1 CLC) on the season.

Alexandria lost the game on Tuesday despite having a 28-17 shot on goal advantage.

The Cardinals travel on Thursday for a road game at 7:10 p.m. against the Fergus Falls Otters (12-7-2, 5-5-1 CLC).
