The Alexandria girls basketball team, who is ranked No. 4 in the MN Girls Basketball Hub Class AAA Preseason poll, took part in the Tip-Off Classic in Hopkins on Saturday, where it met another team ranked in that top ten poll, No. 9 Stewartville.
It was a fast-paced, tough game that went Stewartville’s way 63-55.
“These tough games and experiences will help us develop along the way for March,” Alexandria head coach Wendy Kohler said. “We took excellent care of the ball against the pressure of the Tigers and switching defenses.”
Allie Haabala finished with a team-high 19 points while Hadley Thul finished with a double-double, 16 points and 14 rebounds. Haabala also had six assists, while Thul had five to go along with five blocks.
Lauren Beyer scored eight points while Morgan Seesz had seven, McKinley Hoelscher had three, and Kate Hennessy had two.

Alexandria (1-1, 1-0 CLC) has two Central Lakes Conference games this week, first against Willmar (0-1) on the road on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., then at home against St. Cloud (1-1) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Redwood Valley boys top Minnewaska
The Minnewaska boys basketball team lost its season-opener on the road at Redwood Valley, 80-52, on Saturday.
The Lakers had seven players get in the scoring column, led by Hunter Kloos with 16 points. Kloos also had team-high eight rebounds.
PJ Johnson had a team-high four assists.
Minnewaska has its home-opener in Glenwood on Tuesday against Montevideo at 5:45 p.m.
