Baseball: Starbuck Jr. Legion League team splits Saturday games
Starbuck falls to Willmar but defeat Lisbon (ND).
PAYNESVILLE - The Starbuck Jr. Legion League scored a handful of runs on Saturday as it went 1-1 against Lisbon (North Dakota) and the Willmar VFW U16 Team.
Starbuck fell to Willmar 7-5, but then defeated Lisbon 11-9.
Starbuck had a 4-3 lead over Willmar after the fourth but Willmar scored three runs in the top of the fifth and didn’t look back.
Jack Majerus had two of Starbuck’s hits and had an RBI. Austin Ballhagen also had two hits and an RBI.
Noah Jensen, Caden Larson and Paul Johnson had a hit.
Nathaniel Dell, Ryland Martin and Ballhagen each pitched in the game with Dell earning the start and Martin had three strikeouts.
In game two of the day, Starbuck scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 10-5 lead.
Lisbon tried to make a comeback but fell short as Starbuck held on to win 11-9.
Larson led Starbuck in hits with three, while Gavin Cain and Austin Weber had two. Jensen and Larson each had two RBIs. Starbuck had 13 hits in the game while Lisbon had 11 hits.
Majerus pitched the first four innings and had two strikeouts while Larson pitched the final three and had one strikeout. Majerus earned the win on the mound for Starbuck.
